Humpback
Whales of the Silver Bank |

Almost brought to extinction by
whaling ships during the early
decades of the 1900's an
estimated 100,000 whales were
killed. In 1966, the humpback
whale received protection from
the International Whaling
Commission. Since this date the
humpback population has grown to
about 10,000 animals worldwide,
with the largest concentration
congregating in the Silver Bank
each year. |

Geographic team while they photo
shoot diving's newest technology
in rebreathers inside Cenote
Ucill.

Southwest
Florida's Reefs in Motion -
Volume 2 |
|
Go
back in time to 1942, during
World War II and see the
freighter "Baja California",
evidence that enemy submarines
really did invade our Gulf
waters. See the destruction
inflicted by a single torpedo
fired from "U84", the
German U-boat under the
leadership of Kapitan Lieutenant
Horst Uphoff.
Visit the 400'
"Bay Ronto" abandoned
during a hurricane on September
11, 1919. Descend into two of
the Gulf's sinkholes to see the
abundant marine life that
freshwater springs can create.
Experience the sinking of the
Honduran freighter, "Fantastico"
in which 7 crew members lost
their lives in the March 13,
1993 "Storm of the Century".
Buddy up with 300-pound Jewfish
as you cover the deck of the
ferryboat "Stoney Point"
and become surrounded by
baitfish and snapper. Loran
numbers are provided for these
Southwest Florida sites. |

The Roatan
Express |
|
A
sea captain since he was 17,
Captain Landon Gough, 55, gives
his personal life jacket to save
another, as angry seas swell up
over his ship's gunnels to
swallow her whole. Florida Coast
Guard responded to his last
distress call but he and another
passenger were never seen alive
again.
Having made
the 80-mile voyage offshore,
only to be denied diving due to
rough seas, Rusty Farst was
determined to return. This film
is the result of his own
personal quest to visit this
incredible wreck. The Roatan
Express is truly a masterpiece
of art and sea-life, totally
worth every bruise he received
during the filming. |
